Māra Zoltners PrattMWP Adjunct Faculty receives 2018 Art Prize

"We are very pleased to announce that the 2018 art prize of $20,000 is awarded to inter-disciplinary artist Māra Zoltners who’s experimental approach towards art-making using various media (photographs, video films, sculptures, paintings) creates works that invite, even provoke the viewer to think about it and feel it. This award is given in recognition of artwork already done, as well as support to further Zoltners’ artistic practice of creating thought provoking works."

Mara has been teaching in our PrattMWP program for 8 years, and she works primarily in video installation.

Mara Zoltners earned a BS in Art from University of Wisconsin – Stout, an MFA from University of Minnesota, and a PhD from University of Leeds in England. Through her interdisciplinary practice, Zoltners creates work that take their development from observing daily routine in everyday life. Her artistic practice inter-relates the margins of daily events with the historical and the personal to ask questions about time and space. Mara’s works take shape as multi-media installations, drawing, sound, digital photography, single channel video and 3Ds (stereoscopic) video. Her work has been screened at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television, (England), The Weismann Museum (USA), as well as The Walker Art Center (USA), and Factory-Art (Berlin). Mara has exhibited work at The National Gallery of Albania, Dean Clough Gallery (England), Leeds Metropolitan Gallery (England), Fargo Museum of Art (USA), Minneapolis Institute of Art, and The Alternative Museum (USA). Zoltners is a McKnight Foundation Fellow in Visual Art, and a Bush Foundation Artist Fellow. She currently teaches Time and Movement classes and Digital Cinema at PrattMWP in Utica, New York.
